CO2 Recuperation Systems Series CRS
|
Description Dry ice is produced by flashing liquid carbon dioxide ( i.e. rapid expansion) into a chamber whereby the liquid CO2 is transformed into snow and gas . The snow is CO2 in solid form but light in density It is often used in this form for packaging food and pharmaceutical products, however when this snow is pressed or extruded it becomes compacted and a dense ice is produced . The shelf life' of solid CO2 is directly proportional to its density and therefore, depending on the application requirements, some users will prefer snow to ice and vice versa. Regardless of the end product, in all solid CO2 production, during the flashing process, approximately 40 to 45 % of the liquid CO2 becomes snow , while 55 to 60 % becomes gas . This CO2 gas is recoverable by re-compression and liquifaction. The CRS recuperation systems manufactured by Cryotronix can economically recover up to 95 % of the CO2 gas that has to be vented during the production of ice or snow. |
